well, another year of warped tour has come and gone...and I think this was the best year yet.
on friday, we played the san antonio show. we got there early, checked in(they remembered we were gunna be there...yeah!) and started waiting around to see what time we were gunna play. we assumed we were gunna play the Kevin Say stage, so we went ahead and loaded in our stuff(so we could drive the van in....once gates open we have to carry it). the schedule finally came out, and it turned out we were playing the Ernie Ball stage instead. this was cool because it's a step up from Kevin Says...and they backline everything, so we only had to move our guitars and cymbals. anyway, maggie and i were making the hike from the venue to the backstage area, when we ran into Max from Near Miss and he told us he'd heard we'd been moved up to the Maurice Stage. this is a good stage to be on...third from the best, i've been told...so of course we think Max is just trying to trick us. he keeps saying that he's telling the truth...that he heard Kevin(the guy in charge) say "Let's put Same Day Service on Maurice...it'll be good for the girls", but we still didn't believe him. So, we get backstage, check out the revised schedule...and there we are...on Maurice...wooho. So...off we go to move equipment one more time...and this time it's everything...i'm not complaining though. We were the last band to play on that stage and it went well....if nothing else it was alot of fun. San Antonio is always a fun date to play because we usually know some people....so thanks to all of our Austin friends for standing right up front and watching....plus thanks to all our friends that were on the tour that came out and rocked with us. We didn't watch too many bands today...it was too hot..but we did catch of few. Our friends in Gametime were awesome, and I caught a few of songs of Never Heard Of It, who were also rockin', even with a guitarist in a cast that had to sit down the entire set.
After hanging out for awhile after the show, we drove back to austin, slept for a couple hours, then headed to Dallas. We thought we were gunna be late, but we showed up with plenty of time to spare, found out we were playing Ernie Ball and got loaded in. Another day of hanging out, watching bands, getting irritated with the security guards that don't believe we're a band, and rockin' out. Our friends in The Applicators played today...good stuff...but they better watch out cuz we're trying to figure out how to steal their new guitarist. Our set was fun. Some people that Maggie and I know from Oklahoma were there, as well as Angel's sister and brother-in-law and we got alot of positive feeback when it was all over. Saw some more good bands today...Face to Face and Eleventeen were probably my favorites today. After the show, we hung out for awhile, then slept for awhile, and finally headed to Houston(along with a couple of hitch-hikers from New Zealand....don't worry mom, they weren't really hitch-hikers. just a couple of guys working on the tour that lost their ride for the night).
In Houston we played the Volcom Stage...so four stages in four days. We ended up played first...twenty minutes after doors opened. It would have been awesome because the stage was near the front gate so all the kids waiting in line were forced to watch us, since we were the only band they could see or hear...so we had a built-in audience....but unfortunately in the middle of the fourth song the power on our stage went out. So...we played for about 10 minutes. It sucked...but at least we got to play a few songs...I heard that the next two bands didn't get to play at all since they were trying to figure out the problem. Today was kinda rough because there was no air-conditioned catering/production place(we got spoiled in San Antonio and Dallas). It wasn't too bad in the shade though, and we had plenty of water and burritos. Maggie managed to get a squirtgun from Eleventeen and we entertained ourselves squirting people for awhile. Most people don't mind since it's so hot out, but we definitely got a couple of dirty looks...especially when we filled it with ice water.
anyway...i guess that's about it. if i think of anything else exciting that happened, i'll update. i can't wait until next summer!!!!!!

first off...let me apologize for the possible zillions of typos...the e, d and c keys on my keyboard aren't working too well...i'll try to pay attention, but it's possible i'll miss a screw-up.

anyway, we made it home from tour. we drove from Portland to Salt Lake City where we had another night of camping in an RV park. While Angel was in the bathroom that night, the oldies station that was playing played some weird song about ding-a-lings...it was hilarious. If anyonee knows this song, let us know. Anyway, as we drove out the next morning without paying, our karma finally caught up to us...kinda. As Angel turned onto the main road out of town, we hear this big THUNK! Maggie and I realize at the same time that one of the back doors of the van was left open. I start yelling at Angel to pull over, which I think freaked her out because she still had no idea what was going on. As soon as the van stopped, I jumped out and ran to the back....dreading seeing my amp lying in pieces in the middle of highway. Luckily...it was just a box of CDs and my box that holds my cords, strings, tuner, etc... The only casualty was the mirror inside the box(it was an old make-up case)...luckily I don't use the mirror anyway.
After leaving SLC, we drove onto Denver where we had a whole day to kill. We went and checked out 8 Houses Down, the studio where we recorded the last CD. We were the first band to ever record there(in the new building) and they have made some major improvements since we were last there. We also stopped by Suburban Home and bugged Virgil for awhile...it was fun.
We played 15th St. Tavern in Denver that night. Although not packed, it was still a fun show. Thanks to Gilbert, Chris, Staci and her friends and Mark and Jason(?) for coming out. After the show Maggie and I were standing in the parking lot talking to our friend Gilbert, while Angel waited in the van. All of a sudden Angel pokes her head out of the door and starts making these weird faces at us. Turns out on the bench right next to the van...right at eye-level for Angel...some gross lady is giving some gross man a BJ. That was a sign for us to get out of town...so we said our goodbyes and took off. After leaving Denver we drove straight back to Austin...a very long drive....I hate long drives.
Anyway, we're home now...I think Angel is pretty happy cuz she missed her hubby, but Maggie and I are ready to get back on the road...it's too hot in Austin. it was an awesome tour and thanks to everyone who helped us out along the way.

the last few shows we've played have been awesome. we're chilling in Portland today, resting up for our 40 hour drive back to Austin. we've been hanging out with and playing shows with our friends from 800 Octane. Thanks again to Eric for setting up the shows and Dave for letting us take over a bedroom at his house. Here's the lowdown on the last week:

July 6 - Yesterday was the Portland Warped Tour...as always we had a great time. Unlike the TX shows we've played in the past, the weather was nice and I didn't feel like I was going to pass out after our set (wearing a sweatshirt at the warped tour?! unheard of.) we got there early around 8:30am, had it out with the powertripping parking guys (yes asshole, girls play in rock bands too) and finally made it though the gates. We were a little worried that they had forgotten that we were going to be there. And they had. It didn't matter, the ladies in the production office have their shit together and got us on the line-up. It turned out we were playing the same stage as 800 Octane, so after lugging our gear across a huge pasture, we set up merch in 800 Octane's tent and got on with our day of people watching, wandering around the merch areas, and rocking out with some great bands. We played last on our stage, I guess the sound guys were ready to get out of there because they started breaking down while we were still playing, we even cut our set short. It didn't matter though cuz we played great and even had a decent crowd, considering we were so far from TX. We were excited to see 800 Octane, NHOI, the guitarist from Damone (who by the way were awesome live), Neal Hendrix and a few of the kids from our Portland and Longview shows in the crowd. It's always nice to play for familiar faces so thanks to everyone for watching.

July 5 - This show was in Bend, OR. It was AMAZING, possibly the best show we've ever played. The kids in Bend should teach a class on how to go to rock shows. We had a moshpit, stagediving, and some kids even tried to pull Angel into the crowd. Everyone was smiling and we played superfast...I wish every show could be like Bend.
*We're going to eat, I'll finish this later*
***Hey...it's sarah, i'm gunna finish maggie's blog now****
anyway...as she said, Bend was out of control! At one point, a kid grabbed the jug of water we had on stage and proceeded to spray it all over the crowd and the stage. I got splashed alittle, but Angel took most of it. After we finished the song, Maggie asked the crowd if there was a nice boy out there that would give Angel his shirt to dry off with. Before we knew it, there were about 5 half-naked boys and one half-naked girl in the audience and 6 shirts on stage. It was very rockstar, except instead of bras and panties, it was t-shirts. It was a great set.
All the other bands that played were awesome too. We realized that we'd actually played Sparelead's CD release show the last time we were in Portland...although I'm not sure that they remember....maybe it had something to do with the fact that we were called Same Day Delivery on the flyer in Bend...we set everyone straight though. 800 Octane rocked as usual, although tonight they did a particularly good job of it. The crowd was insane through their entire set, especially during the last song. Justin managed to knock his amp completely over which was pretty scary( I saw it going, but being that I was about 15 feet away and would have had to fight through the mosh pit to get there, I just stood and grimaced as I watch it fall.) Luckily, I don't think there was much damage.
Thanks so much to all the kids in Bend who made this such a great show.....definitely the best of tour!!

July 4 - Since this show was on a holiday we were all alittle worried about the turn-out at the show in Richland, but it ended up being fine....although this is the first year in a long time I didn't see 4th of July fireworks. The sacrifices I make to be in a band!! Anyway, this is another show we played with 800 Octane, so we caravaned there and ended up being alittle late. By the time we got there, a bunch of kids were already hanging out waiting for the show to start.
The first band Absentminded was really good....kinda emo-punk. I see so much live music, that I get kinda burned out so if a band can hold my attention for more than 3 songs, it means something....luckily we've played with quite a few good bands on this tour. We played next. I think we played pretty well and Angel jumped around alot more. She watched the video of our show in Huntington, learned some things and got better....just like football. We had a pretty good reaction...a few people danced through the whole set and everyone seemed entertained.
800 Octane played last and it's obvious that Richland loves them....they rocked as usual and played an awesome cover of Safety Dance which had everyone dancing.

July 3 - Not much to say about this show. The kids came were cool...but it was the other bands that made the night fun. Thanks to The Daryls, BXF(another band we played with the last time we were in the NW) and Anti-Anti for making the show worthwhile. The funniest part of the night...at least for me, was after the show when we went to eat with Anti-Anti. We went to a diner where we had the worst service possible. Now to give the waitress credit, I think she might have been the only waitress, as well as the only busperson. However, when someone orders homefries and you bring them hashbrowns, it's just not cool to say "well...too bad, you're stuck with it". it's also not cool to never bring out the toast or country gravy(to go with chicken fingers served with tartar sauce) or to give us dirty looks when we refill our coffee ourselves after waiting for 20 minutes for a refill. Most importantly, you cannot tell the vegetarian in the group that she has to eat the ham that came out on her Eggs Benedict...even though she said "no ham". When she says, she can't, you cannot tell her just to scrape the ham off and eat it anyway because it will take too long to make another. Maggie finally got fed-up and told her to just take the eggs benedict off the ticket and shared her grilled cheese with the veggie....the waitress went ahead and took it off, but not without letting us know that she wasn't happy about it. luckily my order was right, otherwise i might not have found this fiasco so funny.

July 2 - Our first show in our mini-tour with 800 Octane. Our old bass player Vanessa lives in Portland and she came out to the show which was really cool. The other bands we played with, The Civies and The Altarboys, were very nice and alot of fun. I have to admit I was sitting down at the merch table for them...I was tired from a long night and day of driving...but I listened and watched their backs..and it sounded good. We played third...it was alittle weird because a lot of the kids sat down for the set. I think they were all 800 Octane fans and were getting rested up, so they tear it up for their set. For some reason, I was alittle nervous playing for the Octane guys...which is weird since they are all good friends. I got over it pretty quickly though and the show was a lot of fun.

July 1 - alright...last one. then i'll be caught up. This was the show in Chico. We had alot of fun here due to the other cool bands, good FREE pizza, nice bar employees(it didn't hurt that they were pretty cute too...haha), a decent crowd, and an awesome punkrock jukebox...the bar is worth going to just for that. Nothing too exciting to say...but definitely a good show. now i'm off too bed to rest up for days of driving, sitting and sleeping in the van.

one lone cow, in the middle of a mountain road, at midnight. weird.
SHOW UPDATE
The July 4 show in Richland, WA has been moved to Ray's Golden Lion and starts at 8:00.
Finally, we are doing my favorite thing of touring. We have found a university computer lab(at CSU Chico) where we are pretending to be students, and I have time to actually check and respond to emails, update the blog and hang out in the air-conditioning. I guess Maggie actually updated yesterday...but I've got more.
Yesterday before we left LA, we had to go to Guitar Center(since Maggie left her sticks) and since we were in the area we stopped at Amoeba Music...a cool record store on Sunset. Maggie had heard good things about it and I have to say I wasn't disappointed. The coolest part was the Clearance section....there were actually good CDs there. I got 4 CDs (Damone, Midtown, Wakefield and one more which I won't name for the sake of staying cool) for $11!! So, we had all kinds of new music to listen to yesterday.
After leaving LA, the plan was to drive to Fresno, then cut over to the Sequoia National Forest and camp. Unfortunately by the time we got there it was pitch-black. After driving for about 2 hours through winding mountain roads, scaring ourselves silly and me getting so carsick I actually puked, we decided we weren't going to find the campgrounds. Maggie was sick of driving so we pulled into an RV park, set up the tent, ate the food we'd bought 2 hours earlier for dinner, and went to bed. Poor Angel didn't bring any warm clothes or a sleeping bag, so at about 5:30AM she crawled into the van where it was slightly warmer. We finally woke up about 9:30AM, packed up and took off. We considered finding the office and paying, but since all we did was used a piece of grass for a couple hours(we couldn't use the bathrooms cuz they were locked) we just got the hell out of dodge.
I guess that's it for now. I hope the show tonight rocks.
"I'm gunna drive this fucker straight into the ocean" -Maggie...as we were driving through the scorching CA desert on the way to San Diego...after the van had overheated for the third time.
