So, SXSW has come and gone. Maggie and I were away at a family reunion for most of it...unfortunately, since SXSW week is probably my favorite week to live in Austin...but we were supposed to get home Friday night(the 19th) and play a show on Saturday. This was going to work out fine...we could hang out Friday night, promote the show, see NOFX and mingle with celebs at the Spin party, then Saturday we could sleep late, then go do some rockin' at The Dizzy Rooster. Of course, it's our luck that this isn't exactly how it turned out.
On Friday afternoon we got ourselves to the airport, got on the plane, and headed back to Florida(where we had a connecting flight to DFW, then Austin.) When we arrived, some problems with baggage and customs caused us to miss our connecting flight...normally no big deal, right? They just stick you on the next flight out. Well...not for the Rimassas. West Palm Beach Airport on the Friday of Spring Break is a madhouse...every airline was overbooked. Noreen at USAirways tried everything possible to get us on a flight, but no luck. We ended up spending the night at the airport. It was absolutely miserable...my sunburn itched, my cell phone was dead, I was hungry, i knew i was missing lots of fun in austin, airport couches are not very comfortable to sleep on, and to top it all off, we had no idea if we were even going to get home the next day.
Somehow, early Saturday morning(after being on stand-by for a couple of flights) we managed to get on a plane to Dallas. We were going to try to get a connecting flight to Austin, but once again everything was overbooked. Fortunately, Christina(our bass player) lives in Dallas and we'd told her to hold off driving to Austin until we knew we had a way home. This was lucky for us, since stand-by failed us again. So....Christina and our friend Rick picked us up at the airport and we drove at extremely high speeds to Austin..we were still trying to make the show we were supposed to play.
We were originally supposed to play at 3pm, but the other bands stalled alittle. We pulled into town at 3:10, ran by the practice space to grab our guitars and drumsticks, got to the club at 3:30, plugged into other people's gear, and were playing by 3:35. Amazing. I still can't believe we made it. The show ended up being alot of fun...even tho I was extremely tired and all I could think about was going home, changing my clothes and brushing my teeth. Thanks again to Sharon for waiting on us, Nooner for letting us use their gear, and USAirways for working some magic and getting us on a flight back to Texas.

New Orleans, LA - Feb. 28
left austin sat. morning at 8am, drove to new orleans, ate some beinets, played a dirty hippie/punk party in the wrong side of town for about 20 people, walked around bourbon street, got a glimpse of some very large breasts, ate a roast beef poboy, left new orleans sun. morning at 3:30 am. Drove home.
1000 miles, $100 of gas...and thats about it.

Austin, TX - Feb. 25
the best part of this night actually occured across the street from Room 710 (where we played) at the Red Eye Fly. Our friends The Dailys (www.thedailys.net) were playing and Sarah and I popped in to catch the last couple songs of their set. They were great, as usual, and their show ended with Trey bloodying his forehead and JP's head nearly be crushed by his amp. And to top it off, they all came over to 710 to spike our crowd. Thanks guys!!!
