this has been an awesome weekend. first, maggie and i finally got to go wakeboarding yesterday...woohoo! we both stood up first try, and maggie even caught alittle air. it was alot of fun, and hopefully we'll get to go again. then today i won tickets to The Blue Man Group from 101X...sweet. maggie and I had been thinking about shelling out the money to go, but now we don't have to.

i haven't written anything about the benefit show we played on August 2 yet, so that's kinda the point of this blog...although i guess i can write about non band-related stuff if I want...i just don't know if anyone is really that interested (except my mom). anyway, the show was really fun. it was jessica's first time ever to play any kind of show, and she did an awesome job. everyone was really impressed, and it's unfortunate for SDS that some people feel finishing school is more important than rockin' (just kidding Jess). even though we only played 6 songs, we managed to stretch it out to almost a regular set and we had a great time. all the other bands sounded really good as well. i hadn't seen cruiserweight in a long time, so it was nice to watch them....even though i had to keep running back and forth between them and Coverage. They played alot of new stuff and i liked all of it....hopefully it won't take until 2008 for their new record to come out, like urny said.
i think chepo said they raised about $1000 for keith's medical bills, so it was a definite success. thanks to al and chepo for putting on a great show, and all of the people that came out to see the rock.

tonight the practice space was over-run with giant cockroaches(tree roaches, palmetto bugs, whatever you want to call them). we kept getting interrupted as one of us would spot one, squeal and run to the other side of the room. it's really hard to concentrate on playing when you're on the lookout for a monster roach...although i did prove to myself that i could play the entire set without looking at my hands.
anway, I hate squashing those roaches b/c they make a horrible crunching sound and they're so big you can feel it. but tonight, i figured out the trick. see, we were in the middle of a song when Jessica, our current fill-in bassist, screamed and pointed at my feet. i knew what that meant, so i jumped around once or twice, then leapt onto the drum riser...all while still attempting to play. after i got out of harm's way, and the music/feedback/noise stopped, Jessica said "Alright! You got it!" Turns out during my jumping i managed to land right on the roach and didn't even know it...although the thought had crossed my mind as i was in the air. The good part(and the trick) is that because it was still so loud, we didn't hear the crunch and since i jumped on it instead of just stepping, i didn't feel it(since i had so much force). Thank god it didn't stick to my shoe. so one roach down...
