California....the land of opportunity. More like the land of high gas prices, fast drivers, dirty air and really loud coyotes that howl all night. At least thats what we've experienced so far. Regardless, we're here and we're going to have fun.

We played a show in Carlsbad, CA last night. It's just north of San Diego, on the coast. We got there a few hours early, so we went to the beach and watched the surfers...one of my favorite things to do in CA. Maybe this time, I'll actually learn how to surf. Then we went to the Mall, so we could find the Vans store and buy Myspace Anniversary concert tickets. It was a weird experience. I can't quite figure out why, but I felt like I was in another country. Maybe it was all the baggy pants, hoodies and shaved heads. I guess I've been hanging out with the hipsters too long...I'm used to shaggy hair and girls jeans. We also got an Orange Julius at the mall. I haven't had one in years and was super psyched. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite as good as I remember...I guess those were the days before Jamba Juice.

Anyway, we finally headed over to the club. It was a sports bar called Squid Joes. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but the stage looked nice and the promoter was cool, so figured if nothing else it would be a good practice. We played last, which as any touring band knows sucks, because it's hard to get people to stick around for a band they've never heard of. It ended up being decent though...people wandered in and out, some girls danced, and we were never playing to absolutely no one.

The coolest part of the night was when we were leaving, we stopped to fill up the van and met some military boys at the gas station. We talked for a few minutes...and I ended up selling one of them a CD. Sweet!
